CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support
CRICOS Course Code: 112471D
COURSE OVERVIEW
This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team. Ultimately you will provide training and support to people with disabilities to enhance their ability to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance and community participation. This program is designed to be delivered via an On-line Learning Environment, with students working at a distance online. Meanwhile, simulation class is mandatory for students to attend. This program will ideally suit those already working in the industry who wish to formalise skills or progress in their careers.
COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however it is expected in most cases that you are already working in the industry or an associated industry or have previous experience in Disability, Aged Care or Home and Community Care. Be aware that working in this industry will require you to obtain a National Police check prior to commencing employment. All States and Territories have similar guidelines and if you move around Australia it is advisable to check with local licensing authorities. If you want to work in the ACT for example, you will also need to undergo a Working with Vulnerable People check. Be aware also that most care facilities and disability providers will require that workers are physically fit and emotionally capable of working in the environment. This also means that workers do not have a condition or a communicable disease that may put the health and safety of the clients and other staff at risk.
DURATION & STRUCTURE
The program is on-line supported distance learning and students can commence training at any time, with up to 12 months to complete the qualification. The course also combines workplace based and assessment, during a mandatory 120 hours of work placement. Students will be given all learning and assessment materials required and will have the ability to submit assignments and assessment electronically via a Student Portal or submit in person. Students will be allocated a trainer and assessor who they can contact at any time. If medication electives are selected students will be required to attend two face to face sessions to complete medication training. Students will complete at least 600 hours of learning over a 40-week period on-line, including the 120 hours of work placement.
